Original Item: Only One Available. Nicknamed the "Bombay Bowler" due to its Indian style, this helmet is designed with a round crown and a very wide brim, the framework in cork, making the helmet very lightweight. The Bombay Bowler (BB) is often confused with the Cawnpore Tent Club and Khaki Solar Pith Hat, in fact the latter two are often confused with each other. However, the Bombay Bowler is considerably smaller than the other two.
The helmet is in good, solid condition with evident signs of faithful use. There is staining on the exterior but the cloth cover itself is presented without any extensive damage. The top interior still retains the East Bengal Stores paper label, a firm located in Dacca, then part of East Bengal, but today known as Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh. The leather chinstrap as well as the top leather strap are complete but cracked and rather delicate. The front brim features two 1st Lieutenant Bars and are placed side by side to make the rank of Captain.
A lovely example ready for further research and display.
